IEM Cologne Major 2026

TIEM Cologne Major 2026: The Cathedral of Counter-Strike Rises Againt

The Intel Extreme Masters Cologne Major 2026 is the fifth CS2 Major Championship and the twenty-fourth Counter-Strike Major overall, taking place in Cologne, Germany from June 2 to June 21, 2026. Organized by ESL under Valve, the tournament features 32 teams competing for a prize pool of $1,250,000, with Stage 3 held at the Palladium and the Playoffs at the iconic Lanxess Arena.

Tournament Format

The format consists of three 16-team Swiss-system group stages followed by an 8-team single-elimination playoff bracket. Teams enter at different stages based on their world ranking, with the highest-seeded squads skipping directly to Stage 3.

The Road to the Playoffs

Stage 2 ran from June 6 to June 9, featuring eight teams from Stage 1 alongside eight higher-seeded participants. Notable upsets came from TYLOO, BIG, and MIBR, who defeated higher-seeded opponents in Round 1.
In Stage 3, 9z and BetBoom delivered early upsets, defeating PARIVISION and The MongolZ respectively. Team Vitality, despite dropping the first map to FUT Esports, closed out the series convincingly. G2 and Falcons played a close match, with Falcons clinching the series in overtime on the deciding map.

Playoff Contenders

Eight teams made it to the single-elimination playoff bracket. Team Spirit entered in strong form, with Danil "donk" Kryshkovets performing at his peak Major level. Team Falcons, bolstered by the addition of Finn "karrigan" Andersen, arrived looking to shake off their grand final curse. FURIA impressed by defeating MOUZ, B8, and BetBoom on their playoff run. Aurora Gaming also demonstrated consistent strength heading into the bracket.

The Big Story: Vitality's Historic Bid

Team Vitality enter as defending champions with a chance to win three consecutive Majors — an achievement that would place them in a category of their own in Counter-Strike history. Team Spirit, fresh off winning PGL Astana 2026, are among the top contenders, while Team Falcons are considered the most likely side capable of challenging Vitality in a potential grand final. One notable absence stands out: FaZe Clan missed the Major entirely, one of the biggest shocks of the 2026 season.

Why IEM Cologne Is Special

IEM Cologne has always been considered the Cathedral of Counter-Strike, but in 2026 it officially holds Major status for the first time since 2016, making it the most prestigious event of the summer and a historic moment for the tournament series.
